GAS PRESSURE MONITORING

NEAR REAL-TIME MONITORING

"Metasphere has a great reputation for dealing with problems or issues - any problems are dealt with jointly to agreed timescales. Customer service is exceptional and all issues are managed with the correct resources applied."

Telemetry Manager, Major Company

Throughout the gas network there is a need for robust and reliable remote monitoring solutions at:

i) District Governors to report network pressures
ii) Extremity Points for security of supply
iii) Validation Points for network modelling, among others.

The determination of pressure enables the identification of gas escapes, provides data for network analysis, and importantly enables regulatory requirements and environmental commitments to be met.

THE PROBLEM

The need to maintain the correct pressure is crucial to monitor shrinkage and maintain a safe network, against a backdrop of infrastructure still being updated including the replacement of old gas mains, and manual data download at some District Governors. Additionally, regulatory targets must be met.

THE RISK

Near real time monitoring of District Governors with alarming at critical level thresholds, helps to identify gas escapes which account for up to 95% of shrinkage, meet regulatory compliance and monitor pressure reduction.

THE SOLUTION

Metasphere's modular concept comprises the battery-powered Point Blue RTU and an independent External Pressure Transducer. It provides greater flexibility, a reliable performance and reduced operating costs.

HOW DOES THE METASPHERE
SOLUTION WORK?

The Point Blue RTU can interface with any pressure transducer currently on the market. External pressure transducers are widely used within the oil and gas industries. Connecting Point Blue with an external pressure transducer enables the detection of changes in pressure to be monitored in near real time. At a District Governor the inlet and outlet pressures are monitored and digital inputs monitor the Slam Shut and DP Filter of the working stream.

Point Blue provides dynamic trending; it logs data every 15 minutes (user configurable) and feeds this back daily directly to the top end system ensuring both data privacy and speed with no additional latency. Under alarm conditions it can be configured to capture, dial in and transfer the data much more frequently (e.g. once an hour or less) once the pre-set alarm threshold is reached, high high, high or low, low low. This can be reported, enabling a proactive approach to the status of the gas network while only calling upon Point Blue’s battery power when it is most needed.

Metasphere’s Point Blue can also monitor pressure at Pressure Reduction Stations (PRS), at Local Distribution Zones (LDZ) Offtakes / City Gates, at Extremity Points, at Network Validation Points and many more.
